The FDA promised some help in regulations for social media for end of December 2010 and it did not happen.
What can you do if you know that you need to be engaged in social media?
- Creating best practices and roles for your organization, while remembering that content will be key for your success and your audience.
- Keep all personal health record information discussions for offline.
- Be informative, relevant and collaborative when creating content.
- Be transparent without slanting your content towards any drug or therapies.
- When possible use third party companies to help you deliver on your content.
Things to consider:
Always consider the environment on which you are engaging, and be aware of planned changed to layout that could affect compliance.
Be clear on the different platforms you use what information you do and do not monitor. Also, make sure you address what you are responsible for.
Use current regulatory guideline as a baseline for how you engage in each environment.

- Adapt communications
- Most important- be transparent

- Create Best Practices and Guide Lines that can easily be followed

- Moving forward remembering you represent the company
- Effectively use each of the channels
- SEO is important so be sure the brand and company can be found
- KNOWLEDGE IS POWER: Remember controversial conversation is happening whether you are there or not, “isn’t it more helpful” if you know about it and can either address appropriately or message more accurately in your marketing
- Consider having a page on main site of all social media environments that your company participates in with a name and link
